Shirley Rae Matchen, 78, of Norman, left this life on March 23, 2017 to be with her Lord. She was born December 26, 1938 in Ponca City, OK to Lewis and Jeanetta Barnard.

Shirley’s spent the majority of her career life as a Consultant RN and as a Nursing Home Administrator. She opened up Shawn Manor Nursing Home in Ponca City, which was one of the first nursing homes in the state. She also went back to college later in life to earn a degree in Theology.

One of Shirley’s passions was writing poetry. Before her passing, she was working on getting several of her poems published. Her poems continuously showed her love for Jesus, love, and life. She also had a deep love and appreciation for animals. She donated to several organizations and had an admiration for A Second Chance Animal Sanctuary. It truly broke her heart to see animals mistreated or abused, and she put much effort into helping every animal she could.

Shirley was a loving, compassionate woman who also knew how to have fun and enjoy life. From racing cars, to unconditionally loving and spoiling her family, to waking up every day of her life at 4:30am to make sure her hair and makeup were perfect, she knew the true meaning of living life to the fullest. She was always the “fun mom” when her children were growing up and provided them an amazing childhood.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Jeanetta Barnard; loving husband of 35 years, Troy Machen; and former husband and loving father of her children, Terry Stanfill.

Survivors include her son, Mitch Stanfill and wife Stephanie of Oklahoma City; daughters, Shannon Smith of Norman and Shawn Abel and husband Tommy of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Brandon Smith and wife Katie, Josh Stanfill, Danielle Stanfill and Ashlee Abel; her first great grandbaby due in September; cousin, Sharon Conway, who was also Shirley’s very best friend; her spoiled fur baby, Maggie the wiener dog; she is also survived by a host of loving extended family and friends.

Shirley will be missed by all who were blessed to know and love her. We know that she is reading her poetry to the angels and will welcome us into Heaven one day with arms wide open and her bright beautiful smile.

Visitation is Monday, March 27, 2017 from 1:00pm to 8:00pm at Moore Funeral and Cremation. Her funeral will be 11:00am, Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the chapel of Moore Funeral and Cremation, 400 SE 19th St. Moore, OK. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Norman, OK.
