Roger Don Smith, 59 of Wewoka, OK passed with his family by his side Friday, January 26, 2018.


He was born in Oklahoma City to the late Roger Gail Smith and Mary K. (Nichols) Smith.


Roger graduated from Moore High School in 1976, and entered directly into the U.S. Navy. Early in his career, after leaving the military, Roger worked as a Glazier in California. He entered into a union with Samantha Lee Vogel in 1978 and remained in California until 1990. Roger later became a Counselor in Joplin, MO touching many lives and helping many people through addiction before returning to Oklahoma. Roger had a humorous outlook on life and was dubbed “funny grandpa” by his grandchildren. He loved motorcycles and horses, especially “Blue Boy”.


In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ben and Bonnie Nichols, and Harland and Daisy Smith. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jeanice Shropshire.


Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Sandy Spraktes and her husband Emmett of Vacaville, CA, and grandchild, Taylor Maderos and great-grandchild, Landon Simpson, and grandchild, Gustavo “Tav” Verdin; daughter, Dona Gayle Smith of Spokane, WA, and grandchild, James Lee Gardner; step-children, Daniel and Dustin Davis; sister, Rhonda G. Shupe and her husband Tom of Moore, OK; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
