Walter A. Carpenter, of Norman, OK, passed away September 25, 2018 at the age of 77.
He was born September 1, 1941 in Salem, IL to the late Joe and Tritha Carpenter.
Walter joined the United States Army in October 1958. After Boot Camp and Signal School he was actively engaged in various duty assignments and postings. He was sent to Vietnam from June 1965 to June 1966 for his first combat tour. He would be sent back to Vietnam from December 1968 to April 1969, and also from January 1970 to January 1971. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with “V” device for heroism.
Walter met Lieselotte Hohlweg in February 1960 and they were married January 1961.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, several siblings, his oldest son, Walter A. Carpenter II, and his granddaughter, Stacy K.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Lieselotte; children, Patricia, Manuela, Scott, and Kenneth.
Final place of rest will be in Ft. Sill National Cemetery at a later date.
