Pat Urell

February 27, 1941 ~ July 6, 2022 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Tribute

Patricia J. (Daly) Urell, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at the age of 81. Pat was born on February 27, 1941 in Stamford, Connecticut to William Daly and Alice MacEntee Daly. Pat devoted her life to her family and her church.

Her faith and love for serving others knew no parish boundaries and she had friends at both St. Joseph Catholic Church in Norman, where she had been a member of St. Monica’s Guild and the Women’s Club, and at St. Thomas More University Parish, where she and Bill were members for more than 30 years. She was known and respected throughout the State of Oklahoma for her leadership and involvement in Kairos Prison Ministry. At St. Thomas More, she served as president of the Martha and Mary Guild, Communion minister to the homebound, a certified Spiritual Director and a member and supporter of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. She was a Secular Carmelite and led others in learning and practicing Centering Prayer.  She loved helping people through faith.

Pat earned a Bachelor’s degree from Mt. St. Agnes College in Baltimore in 1963 in Medical Technology and a Master’s Degree in Oceanography and Limnology from the University of Connecticut. In 2006 she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Ministry from Newman University in Wichita Kansas, through the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City.

Pat loved the outdoors. After being a Girl Scout as a child, she led Girl Scout troops for her children. She had a love for music and played the guitar in music ministry and at family gatherings.  She loved the color purple – so much so that she even painted a refrigerator purple! She also had a fondness for clowns, cats, quilting and chocolate.

Pat is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, William J. Urell; children, Bill Jr., Diana Morgan (Ron Cummings), Judy Urell, Pamela Lenti (Lou), and Michael Urell; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Marisa, Jillian, Elizabeth, Julianna, Jael, Janelle, Jessi, and John Michael; great grandchildren, Isaiah, Scarlett, and Cassius; along with many cousins and friends.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Anne Brown.

A Vigil prayer service will be held on Tuesday, July 19, at 6:00 p.m. at St. Thomas More University Parish, 1535 Jenkins Avenue, Norman. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Brian Buettner on Wednesday, July 20th at 10:00 a.m., also  at St. Thomas More, immediately followed by inurnment  at St. Joseph Cemetery. Those who attend are invited to wear purple, Pat’s favorite color, to her services. Friends are invited to join the family for lunch provided by the parish back at St. Thomas More following the service.

The family has asked for any memorial gifts made honoring Pat’s lifetime of service and love of God and neighbor be made to either Kairos Prison Ministry of Oklahoma at kairosoklahoma.org or to St. Vincent de Paul at St. Thomas More, stm-ou.org/ministries/st-vincent-de-paul.
