On June 6, 1938, in Salt Lake City, UT, Margaret Elma Frandsen Sorensen was born to Kenneth Soren Frandsen, and Elma Andrea Waugaman at LDS Hospital. During her toddler years, the family moved to Pasadena, California where she grew up the eldest of three girls - her sisters being Kay and Ellen. She graduated from John Marshall High School where she played basketball, played the violin in the orchestra, and enjoyed art. She attended Pasadena City College where she earned her Associates of Arts degree in Fashion Merchandising. On September 1, 1962, she married Griffith Lund Sorensen in the Los Angeles, California Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They would raise a family together that consisted of four children: John, Katharine, Stephanie and Karen. Their journeys would take them through recessions and prosperity, through Pasadena and Arcadia, CA, Altadena, CA, Norman, Oklahoma, and her return to Salt Lake City.
There were some things that she unquestionably loved to eat as long as there was SALT available: In-n-out Burger, The Hairy Bean, Ted’s Escondido, the Seafood Broiler, Pepe Delgados, and meals with her family, regardless of what or where it was. She was an extremely hard worker, toiling endless hours and making multiple sacrifices to ensure that the family always had the necessities it required.
She had some favorite activities, which included watching the annual Tournament of Roses Parade, going to Disneyland and enjoying the attractions with the energy and fervor of a young child, touring houses for decorating ideas, rooting for the USC Trojans – her husband’s alma mater, listening to barber shop quartets, attending musical productions, making care packages of sugar cookies for her children, and entertaining friends and family in her home.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Elma, and her husband Griffith. She is survived by her sisters Kay Hutchings and Ellen Jensen (Lauritz), her children John (Carol) Sorensen, Katharine (Brent) Wagstaff, Stephanie (Aaron) McElwee, and Karen, as well as her grandchildren Chelsea, Grant, Sydney and Grace.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2017 from 10:00-10:45 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints, 1506 W. Imhoff Rd, Norman, OK 73072. Funeral services will commence at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow at the Sunset Cemetery in Norman at approximately 1:00 PM.
