Fernando Freddie Martinez, affectionately known as “Poppy”, was born to Pete and Julia Martinez on May 15, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Poppy passed away suddenly at his home in Oklahoma City on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at the age of 73.
After graduating from Central High School in 1964, Poppy enjoyed his career as a Lab Technician where he met many lifelong friends. He had a love for music and a true talent for playing the drums. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. He loved taking them to movies, and never missed a birthday party. You could always count on him for a good laugh and a hug, and of course a picture. He loved taking pictures with his family and friends.
Poppy is survived by his brother, Tommy Martinez of Oklahoma City; children, Connie Rider and husband, Randy, of Norman, Kris Cox of Oklahoma City, Kevin Cox of Oklahoma City, Kimberly Morse and husband, Tim, of Yukon; grandchildren, Kenneth, Jake, Ashley, Matt, Krissi, Nathan, Paul, and Addie; great-grandchildren, Stevie, Jett, and baby Crew; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Poppy is preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Julia Martinez; wife, Laramie Martinez; brothers, Juan “Bobby” Martinez, Pete “PJ” Martinez; sister, Rosaline “Tootsie” Cowns; and daughter, Kelly Cox.
