Duane Edward Burton - July 31, 1948 - February 19, 2022
A gentle soul has just graced the realms of Heaven and will be sorely missed by those he left behind. Duane Edward Burton passed peacefully on February 19th with his wife, Janis, sister-in-law and a good friend at his side. He was born July 31, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri to Clyde and Eldora Burton.
Duane received his Bachelors of Arts Degree from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. For his career, he taught high school sociology, psychology, history and government in Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Florida, and Georgia. Duane and Janis also taught in schools in Kuwait, South Korea and Kosovo. He influenced the lives of his students in a positive way, creating in each a feeling of self-worth, and many with a life-long bonding with him. As a side job, Duane enjoyed teaching tennis - which is how he met Janis. He attempted to teach her tennis, but as she says that didn't last long! In her words, she says that the relationship with Duane was more important than learning how to play tennis. :0)
He was a musically talented man who played the oboe, French horn and flute. He had a deep love and appreciation for music - listening, and performing in his younger days. For enjoyment, he would never pass up a game of playing pinochle, or tennis!
Duane was known to family and friends as a gentle, giving man - very witty with a dry sense of humor who made everyone laugh freely. Everyone would agree that for those who knew him, their lives were touched by him. Always thoughtful and considerate, he thought of others before himself. Never showing impatience or anger, he was always a gentle loving presence.
Duane is survived by his wife of 34 years, Janis Sue Burton. He is preceded in death by his son Bradley Edward Burton, and his parents Clyde and Eldora Burton.
A celebration of his life gathering will take place on Saturday, February 26 from 2:00-4:00 at the Chateau on the Green Clubhouse, 1511 SE 4th Street, Moore, Oklahoma. A memory service with the sharing of "Duane stories" will begin at 2:00 with the serving of some of Duane's favorite desserts following.
