Doris Rycroft was born Doris Marie Cathey on February 21, 1933, in Leon Junction, TX to Oran and Rosa Lee Cathey. One of six children, Doris grew up in the McGregor, Texas area and graduated from Corsicana High School in1950.
In the following years, Doris would become a homemaker and mother to Jeanne and Sherry and would then marry the love of her life, Haskell Rycroft with his daughter Sheila, on February 20, 1959 in McGregor. After Haskell was discharged from the Army, they began their pastorate of Revival Center Church (later becoming Rays of Life Church) in Lexington, Oklahoma. They continued their ministry together for over 54 years. They served as Pastors while providing council and hope to many, not only in the Lexington community, but throughout the world.
With Doris’ calm demeanor and unwavering support, the two hosted a radio show, performed music together, and traveled to many countries preaching the gospel and setting up Bible schools in support of innumerable ministry outreach programs. Doris had her own passion for the ministry. She was a gifted author, teacher, and Biblical scholar in her own right. She proved to be an incredible partner, mother, encourager, friend, and confidant through her life. While she set the standard with her fashion and clothing, she was often a suspect cook. Her love for God was her driving and sustaining force and provided her with the deep faith and hope that she so often radiated to others through simple acts, kind gestures and prayer.
She loved being a wife, mother, and pastor to the many people fortunate enough to have crossed paths with Doris. Haskell and Doris would spend 61+ years together before Haskell’s passing in March of 2020.
Doris was predeceased by her parents, her husband Haskell, and her brothers Tommy Bovee and Jimmie Cathey. Her three remaining siblings are Judy Herring (and her husband Ray Herring) of Crawford, Texas, Jerry Bovee of Texas, and Stella Kepler of Texas. She is also survived by her late brother Tommy’s wife, Brenda Bovee of Texas and her late brother Jim’s wife, Peggy Cathey of Mississippi.
Doris is survived by her six daughters: Jeanne Coffman and husband Billy Coffman of Gentry, AR; Sheila Villa of Oklahoma City; Sharran Taylor and husband Rev. Greg Taylor of Oklahoma City; Rebekah Kerwin and husband Kyle Kerwin of Springdale, AR; Robin Wait and husband Matt Wait of Fayetteville, AR; Roxanne Gross and husband Jason Gross of Oklahoma City, OK
