Samuel “Sam” John Nicholas, 74, of Moore, passed peacefully Wednesday, July 12, 2017.

He was born in Chickasha June 20, 1943 to the late Roy Everett Nicholas and Emma Gertrude Buchanan Nicholas.

Sam was a member of Oklahoma Community Church for five years. He was an avid golfer, played competitive fast pitch softball, and enjoyed shooting pool. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and enjoyed supporting OSU sports. Sam worked for Conseco Insurance for 10 years before retiring in 1996. He was a farmer in the Verden area prior to working in Insurance.

Surviving are his wife, Sonja, of 25 years; son, Justin Nicholas; daughter, Tammy Nicholas; step-children, Rod Walton, Tammy Sponburg, and Barbie Smith; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; long-time caregiver, Lucy Mukunji, and many friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 14th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Moore Funeral and Cremation, 400 SE 19th Street, Moore, OK 73160.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 15th at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Moore Funeral and Cremation. Burial will follow in Moore City Cemetery.
