James Donald “Jim” Maddox passed away peacefully Sept. 28, 2017 in OKC. Jim was born to James David and Minnie Ola Price Maddox on Feb. 14, 1937 in Duncan, OK. He graduated with Duncan Class of 1955. On May 19, 1960 Jim married the love of his life, Merrily Boyd, in Duncan, OK. They were together for 53 wonderful years before Merrily passed in 2013. Jim worked for DPO for 28 years before retiring in 1987. After retirement, he worked at Burlington in loss prevention for several years, where he was known as “Santa” to everyone there. He was a member of Shartel Church of God and loved his church family like his own. He was also a part of Duncan Highlifters.
Jim was an avid donor to the city rescue mission and was very involved in the Senior Center. He was a sports fanatic and loved his OU Sooners and OKC Thunder. Jim also enjoyed playing bingo and canasta at his residence at Featherstone Assisted Living.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Merrily Maddox; his parents; his son, Rusty Maddox; and his sister, Patsy Maddox. We have peace in knowing that Jim has now been reunited with his wife, son, and sister in Heaven.
He is survived by his son, Phillip Maddox; grandchildren, Ryan Maddox of OKC, and Justin Maddox of Marlow, Jenae Murray and husband Jarrod of McLoud and Miranda Breeland and husband Jason of Marlow; sister, Barbara Steely of Harrah; daughter-in-law, Lisa Liggett of Marlow; great-grandchildren, Jacie Bennett, Payton Maddox, Bretlie Hyde, McKinna Hyde and Jakeb Murray; he is also survived by a host of loving extended family, including many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held at 10:00AM, Monday, Oct. 2, 2017 at Shartel Church of God in OKC with reverend Ron Roddy officiating. A graveside ceremony will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Duncan, OK at 2:00PM with Reverend Eddie Coast officiating.
