Share Tribute:

Desdie Marie Royal, fondly known as "Dizzy" has left her family and friends on this side of Heaven to join many others in the halls of Heaven. She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, James D. Royal, daughter, Mary Louise (Jonnie) Suggs, her brother, James Edgar, her sister, Willie Venus Johnson and grandson, Kenny Suggs, II.

Desdie was born in Grantham, Oklahoma on April 19, 1920 of Ruthie Venus and Willie Alton Edgar. She was 96 when she left us on March 22, 2017 at 8:30 AM at Grace Living Center Brookwood in Oklahoma City. Her granddaughter, April Suggs Campbell had spent the night and was at her bedside.

Desdie, along with her mother, sister, grandmother and wonderful aunts will no doubt be gathered around a magnificent golden piano with many angels singing praises to God, just as they did many times here on earth when she was younger. They would always end their song fests with "God be with you til we meet again."

She will probably be directing a large children's choir where they will be singing some of the songs God gave her to sing here on earth, even some that were published. Songs such as "Two Little Hands" and "Peace of Mind."

She was the pianist at Penn Avenue Baptist Church in Oklahoma City in the 1950's-60's and produced Christmas plays by the children as well as accompanying regular singing. From there she went to Southern Hills Baptist Church where she kept the nursery for 10 years.

As a teenager Desdie worked for her aunt in Lilly's Beauty Shop in Madill, Oklahoma. She had even taken a bus alone to Oklahoma City to take her Cosmetology exam and had previously lived with her Aunt Lilly in Ada to get training as a beauty operator.

Besides raising their own 3 children, she and husband James (married for 68 years) raised 2 great grandchildren and had various grandchildren living in their home over the years. She was the ultimate homemaker, even producing food from her own large garden with every vegetable and fruit she could grow, including fig trees and banana plants. She was also an incredible seamstress and made clothes and dolls for her children and great grandchildren for a span of 45 years!

She is survived by her daughter Ruth Ann Hudson and husband Frank of Oklahoma City, Mitzi Beth Sigler of Tulsa and son-in-law Kenneth Wayne Suggs. She also leaves 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Her greatest legacy, however, is her outstanding Christian love shown to her family, friends and anyone who needed kindness and encouragement. Her greatest prayer was that everyone in her family accept Jesus Christ as their Savior, thus assuring her that she would see them again in Heaven someday.

Instead of a formal service the family plans to have a home memorial dinner in the future to celebrate and honor her life.
