David Michael Smith, 65, of Moore, OK passed from this life February 4, 2018 following a short battle with lung cancer. He was born April 14, 1952 in San Mateo, CA to Thomas Smith and Carol Smith (Seegmiller).
David grew up in Roselle, IL and graduated from Driscoll High School. He was a carpenter his whole life and most recently worked at Westfahl Construction. He had spent the last 20 years as a Construction Superintendent and loved working on things. He couldn’t sit still around the house and was constantly remodeling and working on home improvement projects.
He met Debi Brittain in 2005 and moved to Oklahoma. They married September 29, 2007.Together, they loved to travel and go on vacations. Their grandchildren were David’s pride and joy and he and Debi loved to do special things with them.
David was an avid TCU fan. He also enjoyed reading and was a history buff. On the rare occasion that he wasn’t up doing something around their home, he did crossword puzzles and liked to stay caught up on politics. He listened to lots of music, but one of his favorite artists was Robert Earl Keen.
David was a man of few words, but was also very sarcastic and humorous. He will be remembered for his strong and quiet spirit. He cherished his family and will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him.
David made the decision to be an organ donor and was able to provide the gift of vision for two individuals after his passing. Although we are sad and will miss him, we are grateful that his legacy can live on through those he has helped.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his loving wife of 11 years, Debi Brittain-Smith; sons, Brendan Smith and wife Brandie of Burleson, TX and Daniel Smith of Fort Worth, TX; stepsons, Shawn Brittain of Moore, OK and Erik Brittain of Oregon; grandchildren, Maddy, Brendan, Matthew, Emily, and Isabelle; and siblings, Jeanne Eber, Trish Melon-Camp, Tom Smith, Tim Smith, Jim Smith, and Michael Smith; He is also survived by a host of loving extended family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 12:00PM on Saturday, February 10th at St. Michaels Episcopal Church, 1601 W Imhoff Rd, Norman, Ok with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in David’s name to the church. An inurnment will take place at a later date at St. Michael’s Memorial Gardens.
